On Tuesday May 19, the Bovenzaal will be dedicated to the modular synthesizer during a new edition of Voltage Control Amsterdam (VCA). After a previously cancelled performance due to visa issues, the Chinese artist tamiX will finally come to Amsterdam. She will bring her unique Buchla 200e system for a fully improvised set. Refusing to use computers or software, she relies entirely on the physical interaction with her instruments to create an atmospheric, experimental experience. Her work, often left unreleased to preserve the focus on the live experience, has previously found its way into spatial audio projects in collaboration with Dolby Atmos. She is also known for her energetic Boiler Room set.

Alongside tamiX, Dutch sound designer Daisy Molenaar, better known as 0 0 0, will perform. She recently gained international recognition when her self-built synthesizer “TEXTURE” was used for the soundtrack of the film Dune II. During this performance, she combines this machine with her Roland SP-404 MKII sampler for a set full of field recordings and deep textures.

The evening will be rounded off by experienced Utrecht-based artist Allert Aalders. In the 1990s, he was part of the techno act Human Beings, performing throughout the Netherlands. Today, he shares his extensive knowledge of sound synthesis through his studio Sonar Traffic and designs sounds for leading software companies. His current work moves effortlessly between ambient, soundscapes, and energetic techno.
